When it comes to pain, we all deal with it differently. Some people prefer to press on through without taking medication or visiting a doctor; whereas others among us might be more inclined to seek help right away.

Do… Talk to Your Doctor

You should never assume that, just because you aren’t suffering from a life threatening condition, your doctor doesn’t want to know. Your doctor is there to help you be as healthy as you can be, and if you’re experiencing pain, it’s indicative that something is amiss. Never be afraid to book an appointment.


Don’t… Put it Off

It’s easy to say that you’re too busy to be ill, and that you don’t have the time to visit the doctor over something which could be minor, and the pain will likely go away on its own, because it may not. It’s always better to get yourself checked out, in case pain is being caused by an undiagnosed medical condition or injury, which requires treatment.


Do… Try Alternative Methods of Pain Relief

Obviously speak to your doctor first to ensure that they’re suitable for you, but if you haven’t given massage therapy or physiotherapy a go for your back pain, it might just be worth a try. Similarly, for pain related to muscle tension, acupuncture has shown beneficial results in reducing discomfort.


Don’t… Just Grab the First Pain Medication off the Shelf

Different types of pain relief exist for a reason. That’s because they’re aimed at specific types of pain. Migraine relief tablets are designed for migraines. NSAIDs are for pain caused by inflammation. While for stronger types of pain, you can buy Co-codamol. Consult your doctor to see which is best for you.


Do… Try to Stay Active

Many people assume that the best way to recover from all types of pain is to remain as immobile as possible. This isn’t necessarily true for all pain types, and in some cases, light exercise can actually help to decrease feelings of chronic pain and reduce stiffness.
